EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy (w) Belfast 2012

Day 1

In Pool B Ulster champions Pegasus made a good start as they hosted the tournament for at Queen's Sport Queen’s University Playing Fields for the first time, in front of a large Northern Irish crowd.

Stephanie Quinn got the first goal after four minutes after good work by Claire McMahon.

Former international McMahon made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when her shot took a deflection off a Belgian stick before entering the net.

Pegasus captain Arlene Boyles added a third goal from the penalty corner midway through the second half.

McMahon got her second goal of the day with four minutes left before the Belgians pulled one back near the end.


The other Pool B between HC Metrostroy and Gintra Strekte Universitas ended in 3-1 win for the Russians.


In Pool A a hard fought 3-3 draw between HC Victorya Smolevichi and Grove Menzieshill opened the tournament, on a grey Belfast day.


MSC Sumchanka defeated Acea Hockey San Saba 4-0 all goals scored in the first half.

Day 2

In a sunny Belfast in Pool A HC Victorya Smolevichi and Acea Hockey San Saba finished 3-1 Laura Tufano scoring twice for Victorya.

MSC Sumchanka defeated Grove 4-0 all goals scored in the first half by Bohdana Sadova.

MSC Sumchanka top Pool A from HC Victorya in 2nd place who play each other tomorrow.

Gintra Strekte and Ara La Gantoise finished 2-2 with the Belgians taking off their GK and capitalizing on the extra man to equalise in th 68 minute.

Pegasus v HC Metrostroy saw Pegasus start strongly, scoring in the 16 minute with a goal from Suzanne Beaney followed by a PC goal from capt Arlene Boyles in the 54 min. HC Metrostroy scored in the 56min and a PC goal in the 66 min to equalize 2-2, Pegasus had a PC in the last minute and shot narrowly wide.

Pegasus top Pool B on goal difference from HC Metrostry, with Pegasus v Gintra and Ara La Gantoise v HC Metrostry tomorrow.

Day 3

Day 3 in grey and cold Belfast saw match 1 Pool A Acea Hockey San Saba v Grove Menzieshill finish 5-1 with Linda Clement hattrick, Louise Baxter, Ailsa Wylie added no 5 right on the final whistle and Alessia Giulianelli for San Saba.

Match 2 MSC Sumchanka v HC Victorya Smolevichi was the pool decider a fantastic match ended 4-4 with a Sudova hattrick, which puts her top of the goal scorers.

In Pool B match 3 Gintra Strekte Universitas v Pegasus Hc saw a 2-0 win for the locals with goals from Claire McMahon & Suzanne Beaney.

HC Metrostroy v Ara La Gantoise saw the first win for the Belgians 2-1.

Pegasus top Pool B 12 points from HC Metrostry on 8 points.

Finals Day tomorrow


Match 1 7th -8th play off Day 4 dawned in a grey and cold Belfast, saw Acea Hockey San Saba v Gintra Strekte Universitas finish 3-2. San Saba took an early lead through 10 Francesca Faustini who added another to leave it 2-0 at half time. Early in the second half Gintra pulled one back through 11 Jurate Juodyte with a drag flick penalty corner. 26 Lillian Kimeu put San Saba in front again before 19 Rosanda Taunyte pulled one back.

Match 2 5th – 6th play off Grove Menzieshill v Ara La Gantoise finished 2-0 with both goals coming late in the second half after Belgium took off their GK , and then had the player with GK privileges sent off for an infringement outside circle, Leigh Fawcett & Louise Campbell with the goals for Grove.

Match 3 3rd – 4th play off HC Metrostroy v HC Victorya Smolevichi finished 8-5 to Victorya a goal fest with 7 goals in the first half, Victorya made a great start with goals from Yuliya Mikheichyk, Natassia Scharbakova, Xenia Efimencova and Maryna Pakhanava,  Metro's 3 coming from Ksenia Svezhentseva(2) and Elena Kirilova half time 4-3 Victorya. The second half saw a further 6 goals with Yuliya Mikheichyk(2) completing her hattrick and Krestsina Kulinkovich(2), Metro fought to the end with 2 further goals from Elena Kirilova getting her 2nd and Olesya Kiryanova in the 69minute. HC Victorya sealed their Bronze Medal.

Match 4 FINAL MSC Sumchanka v Pegasus,Pegasus were without inspirational Capt Arlene Boyles(injured) but what a start from Pegasus who went 3 -0 up in 6mins with goals from Suzanne Beaney(2) and Vanessa Surgeoner, the match was end to end with Sumchanka proving very dangerous on the attack the pulled the 3 goals back in the first half through Bohdana Sadova, Yevheniya Moroz, Karyna Matviyenko 3-3 half time. The second half was more of the same but Pegasus were resolute in defence giving the dangerous Sadova no chances, only conceding one penalty corner in this half which was ably dealt with by Sharon Moffett. With the exhuberant home crowd liting the team Steph Quinn moved the ball quickly out of defence with a pin point pass to Claire McMahon who rounded the defender and squared the ball to Suzanne Beaney her initial shot was saved but her 2nd shot was lifted high into the net, and with her hattrick completed and Pegasus 4-3 ahead with 1 min 30 secs left the celebrations began.
