PEGASUS 1'S WIN LEAGUE

FOR THE 30TH TIME

A scoreless draw with, last years champions Ballymoney, was enough to see Pegasus win the league for the 30th time. With two league games remaining Pegasus can now turn their thoughts to the EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy 06-09 April 2012, in Belfast.

A tremendous week for Coach Michelle Rainey which also saw her lift the Ulster Senior Schools Cup with Ballyclare HS for the first time, "3 Pegasus Stars of the future" Amy Cooke, Amy Jones and Lucy Camlin are members of both winning squads.

Amy Cooke and Lucy Camlin have in the past year, won champions medals in the Irish Senior Cup, Irish Hockey League, Ulster Shield, Ulster Premier League and Ulster Senior Schools Cup a superb achievement!!

John Flack UTV Talks to Arlene Boyles & Claire McMahon

Former international hockey players Claire McMahon and Arlene Boyles have travelled the world with Pegasus and Ireland

weekend though they will be enjoying home comforts as Pegasus host the European Club Championships at Queen's.

Pegasus, who recently claimed the Ulster Premier League title for the 29th time, need to finish in the top two to earn Ireland promotion into the top flight of European competition next year.

They are up against tough opposition particularly on Friday when they face a Belgian side, who include two players who were on the winning team that beat Ireland to clinch a place at the London 2012 Olympics.

McMahon, now in her 21st year with Pegasus says her hunger for success remains undiminished.

"Hopefully there is still enough in the legs to keep going for a bit longer but really looking forward to it and it's fantastic that it's at home," she told UTV.

"We've played in most countries around the world that are associated with hockey so to bring it back to Belfast and bring it to Northern Ireland is fantastic for Pegasus," Boyles added.

"I think you go into most tournaments like this and you're hoping to get to a final.

"Playing the Belgians on Friday will be a huge game for us and will set us up for the weekend I think and obviously with the Russians and Lithuanians you just don't know what you're going to get."

The European Championships get under way at Queen's on Friday and run through until Monday
